Cedars-Sinai is a nonprofit academic healthcare organization serving the diverse Los Angeles community and beyond. With pioneering medical research achievements, education programs defining the future of healthcare, and wide-ranging community benefit activities, we’re setting new standards for quality and innovation in patient care. It began in 1902 as a 12-bed hospital in the Angelino Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles. Today, Cedars-Sinai serves more than 1 million people each year in over 40 locations, with more than 4,500 physicians and nurses and 1,500 research projects in motion. What never changes is our commitment to be a blessing for those in need. Since its inception in 1902, Cedars-Sinai has evolved to become the largest nonprofit hospital in the western United States — one that’s internationally renowned for the best patient care modern medicine has to offer. Our support of the Los Angeles community grows stronger every day with our commitment to providing superior patient care, breakthrough biomedical research, graduate and undergraduate medical education and community service. A lot has changed in more than a century, but our devotion to meeting the health needs of the growing Los Angeles and Jewish communities has never wavered. Here are just a few highlights from the journey so far, inspired by the Cedars-Sinai Historical Conservancy exhibit on the Plaza Level of the South Tower.
